A Jazzy Day at ISP

It’s not every day that a full 16-piece band comes to school, but when it does, we know it’s the Jazz Dock Orchestra!  Before break, we were delighted to once again welcome this Prague-based big band to ISP, as these professional musicians worked their musical magic within our community.

Thanks to generous donations to the ISP Fund, bringing the Jazz Dock Orchestra to ISP meant more than just a performance for our students. It provided a unique learning opportunity for our budding musicians, allowing them to share the stage with these seasoned professionals.

This year’s musical repertoire, featuring Jazz classics like “Four Brothers,” revolved around ISP’S 75th anniversary theme. Grade 4’s and 5’s, as well as the MS Band Elective students, enjoyed the live concert while some of our US musicians in our music programme and Community Jazz Ensemble members benefited from the incredible opportunity to get on stage with the band.

“It was very nice to play with the advanced jazz band and to try some new music.  I play the vibraphone, and through this experience, I discovered a new branch of music and became a better percussion player.”

Lex, Grade 9

“I play the clarinet, and I really enjoyed playing with the Jazz Dock Orchestra because it really helped me understand how to play this piece and how I could improve based on their playing.”

Rachel, Grade 9

We are so grateful to donors of the ISP Fund who made this experience possible for our students and community.  A special shout out to ES Music teacher, Ms Suzanne Higgins, visiting artist Mr. Andy Schofield and Theatre Manager Josh Stewart, among many others who orchestrated a fabulous day!  We can’t wait for the next time the Jazz Dock Orchestra comes to ISP!
