The overall purpose of the position:

Teaching Upper School (Grades 9-12) students Mathematics from Integrated IB MYP Math 9/10 through to IB DP Mathematics in coordination with the current curriculum and in line with ISP standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain a positive, student-centered environment that maximizes learning opportunities for all learners.
  • Develop and plan classes following the Understanding by Design curriculum planning process and in alignment with the ISP Math standards, departmental philosophy, and ISP mission.
  • Establish  & maintain a comprehensive, differentiated, and balanced array of learning experiences, which further develop students’ skills, concepts, and understandings.
  • Effectively assess and document students’ learning growth based on Math standards, benchmarks, performance indicators, and unit criteria.
  • Be an active partner in building & sustaining trusting relationships with other colleagues.
  • Integrate IT in classroom instruction as a tool to support student learning.
  • Actively participate & lead in professional development opportunities and collaborative meetings.
  • Support the holistic development of students as an advisor and as a supervisor of student clubs and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, skills, and dispositions required:

  • An avid learner and seeker of how to support students’ IB Math strengths & interests.
  • Impactful leader: walk the talk, have a bias to action, and a strong ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated success in planning and teaching IB MYP and DP Math.
  • A sound understanding of best-practice skills in Math education, facilitating inquiry and interdisciplinary connections.
  • Self-driven, always trying to go to the next level.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues in a clear and empathetic manner.
  • A growth mindset and open-minded approach to professional learning - a life-long learner.
  • International / multicultural teaching experience.
  • Flexible, can-do attitude, innovative and solutions-focused.
  • A high level of intra & interpersonal intelligence and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Education and training preferred:

  • A BA (MA preferred) degree in Math or a related field of study.
  • Teaching certification for Upper School Math.
  • Proven track record in teaching IB MYP and/or DP Math to Upper School-age students.
