Music
Music is a fundamental aspect of human expression, making it an integral part of a holistic education. At ISP, we provide students with diverse musical opportunities, aiming to both engage and challenge them. Our ultimate goal is to inspire students to fully develop their musical skills and derive maximum enjoyment from their musical experiences.
Music enables students to communicate in ways that go beyond their oral language abilities, making it an accessible and inspiring form of expression from the earliest stages of learning, starting with our ECF 3/4 students. In these classrooms, music takes various forms, ranging from movement to music, rhythmic explorations and class singing.
In Primary School music classes at ISP, students engage in a dynamic curriculum that encompasses a wide range of musical activities, including singing, rhythm exercises, music theory exploration, instrument introduction and creative composition. These activities aim to nurture students' musical skills and appreciation. Additionally, those interested in pursuing instrumental learning can opt for our Band and Strings programme, offered as an after-school activity.
In Middle School, all students take MYP Music which engages and challenges learners to maximise their musical abilities and enjoyment. In addition, students can continue their musical passions by opting to become part of our Rookie or Rockstar Bands during electives, or join the choir.
The Upper School MYP Music is part of the elective programme with course offerings of Concert Band, Guitar, Electronic Music Production, Rock Band and Vocal workshop.
The Upper School IB Diploma Programme in Music is open to anyone who is passionate about music. You could be a classically-trained performer or a guitarist interested in rock music, a budding DJ, an electronic music producer or someone who just loves to sing in the shower! We’ll listen to and study music from around the world, and you’ll take your research and apply it to your own work as a creator and performer. There is no written exam. Final assessment will be based on the submission of a digital portfolio containing written reports, compositions and performances.
Music is celebrated all year long at ISP, and our school calendar is full of occasions to celebrate its important role in our community. From holiday performances featuring student musicians of all levels to community concerts and captivating performances of esteemed professionals like Prague’s renowned Jazz Dock Orchestra, visiting ensembles, and a cappella groups, music is an integral and joyful part of ISP's vibrant culture.
