Bringing Books to Life: ISP Book Week 2026

Bringing Books to Life: ISP Book Week 2026

ISP’s first Book Week held from 16 - 20 February, was more than a celebration of our love of books; it was a powerful reminder of the impact stories have on our lives.

Throughout the week, students across Elementary, Middle, and Upper School experienced how reading opens doors to imagination, empathy, curiosity, and confidence. Books allow students to see themselves reflected in stories, explore perspectives beyond their own, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

One of the most inspiring highlights of the week was welcoming world-renowned children’s authors and illustrators Ruth Chan and Drew Brockington to ISP. Meeting real authors made the creative process feel real and attainable. Ruth and Drew shared openly about how their ideas evolve from a small spark of inspiration to drafts, revisions, sketches, and finally, a published book in students’ hands.

They spoke about perseverance, creative blocks, and the courage it takes to put your work out into the world. Whether speaking to Elementary, Middle, or Upper School students, they tailored their messages in ways that resonated deeply. Students didn’t just learn how books are made, they saw that storytelling is a journey fueled by passion, hard work, and imagination.

"It was such a joy to see ISP learners—from ECF3 to 11th-grade DP artists—meet published authors and illustrators. Ruth Chan inspired students with her story of resilience and the importance of sharing their own, while Drew Brockington brought humor and creativity to life, guiding students through drawing exercises and creative techniques."

Beyond the author visits, the week offered countless ways for students to engage with books in a hands-on and fun way. Students had access to books throughout the campus and participated in activities that made reading come alive. In the mornings, students were able to listen to captivating guest readers, including ISP faculty, who brought stories to life with energy and creativity. From interactive Kahoot challenges to a themed photo booth, and even dressing up as their favorite book characters, students brought stories to life, explored their creativity, and shared the joy of reading together.
