Girls in Leadership Group Hosts Inspiring Women’s Symposium
The Girls in Leadership Group at ISP is known for its commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can thrive. By addressing important issues such as gender bias and advocating for equity, they are helping to shape a more equitable future for everyone.
“Through our club’s activities, I learned how to be a collaborative person, share my opinions, and listen actively. I grew so much over the three years in Girls in Leadership.”
Minie, Grade 11
Our Girls in Leadership Group, guided by Upper School teacher Springs Pacelli, recently hosted an exceptional Women’s Symposium focused on addressing gender bias and promoting greater inclusion for women in the workplace.

The symposium was a student-led and student-organised event, with activities and discussions facilitated by the Girls in Leadership group. The panel portion of the evening featured four remarkable speakers—Clare Sheils, Lucie Mikeska, Shohag Bhargava, and Lydia Warren—who passionately advocated for women's advancement in both their careers and personal lives. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to these speakers for sharing their inspiring stories with us.
“Listening to the stories of notable women pioneers not only inspired us but also reinforced the need for relentless advocacy for gender equality. It's a reminder that our collective efforts today will shape a more inclusive and equitable future for all.”
Tera, Grade 11
“The Women's Symposium served as a pivotal platform for discussing gender bias issues and advocating for equality in our community. Through engaging panel discussions, attendees gained valuable insights into the challenges women and girls face in various situations and the importance of addressing systemic biases. Moreover, the symposium empowered the Girls in Leadership, providing them with the opportunity to educate our community. This initiative fosters a future generation equipped to challenge stereotypes and strive for gender equality.”
Springs Pacelli, US Science Teacher
“The Women’s Symposium was important to me, being a girl who wants to major in a STEM field. I still think that STEM is still mostly a male-dominated field, but planning this symposium and hearing the female speakers we brought in really inspired and empowered me to proceed with confidence in my STEM-focused career."
Lexi, Grade 12
Along with the incredible speakers and engaging activities, the evening was enhanced by powerful performances by female staff and students. These performances highlighted the strength and talent in our community and brought these messages to life through song and music. Thank you to our talented student performers, Savanah, Michelle, Sonya, and Jasmine, and Upper School teacher Callahan Davenport for providing beautiful musical accompaniment.

The symposium clearly demonstrated the impact of our Girls in Leadership Group and their ability to lead with passion and purpose, making a positive difference in the lives of those around them. This event is yet another testament to the outstanding efforts of the group, which organises many fundraisers and events at ISP, including the Talent Show and Halloween Ball.
Their dedication consistently inspires and empowers our ISP community while making meaningful contributions to both local and global organisations. Congratulations to all the students in Girls in Leadership and to Springs Pacelli for this incredible achievement!
