Bringing Spirit to the Hallway: Upper School wall art project
STRAIGHT-FROM-THE-STUDENTS:
Written by Angela, Grade 11
Have you seen the vivid eye-catching graffiti-style wall art in the Upper School hallway? The STUCO “special project committee” is always actively working to plan long-term and meaningful projects for the ISP community. This wall art project was one of their great ideas made visual!
The wall art is located in the Upper School hallway; A falcon with the words Inspire, Engage, and Empower. STUCO organised this new wall art with 4 IB visual art students. The students in IB visual art spend two years deepening their learning and understanding of human creativity, expression and communication. The students were excited to show their skilful techniques through this visible, community art project.
The idea behind this project was to explore how public wall art can bridge connections between individuals, and how the use of vibrant colours might increase the spirit of the Upper School.
“This wall art was created to show companionship and community to people in ISP.”
Eliska, Grade 11, Special Project Committee leader
The STUCO special project committee student members took on all responsibilities for this entire project. They invested their effort and time in planning it themselves, collecting volunteers, and getting approval from school leadership.
In case you were wondering about the history of this project, the Inspire, Engage, Empower wall art is not the only mural painted on the walls in Upper School. Last year, the first wall art, painted by seniors, appeared on the wall and added a lively atmosphere to the halls. Seeing the positive effect, the special project committee decided to continue the art and begin an ongoing campaign.
This painting project is a way of connecting our Upper School students and staff and building excitement and anticipation for the next installation. Special thanks to STUCO special project committee and the Upper School art students who helped to create a wonderful wall art!
