New Fairy Garden for ECF Playground: Cultivating Young Imaginations

New Fairy Garden for ECF Playground: Cultivating Young Imaginations

The Fairy Garden is an “intimate” space in our Early Childhood Foundation area where stories come to life. Designed with natural materials, it gives ECF 3/4 children a place to create, re-create, and share stories while exploring their imaginations. Each child brings a unique perspective to the materials, crafting narratives that reflect their individual identities and ideas.

Since its creation, the children have developed a variety of stories, from “The Hamster Who Wants to Escape” by Ayah to “The Fire Fairy Looking at the Fire in Her House” by Noa. Irene and Jeongin’s collaborative “The Pink Fairy Who Loves Her House” and Mika’s “The Leaf Fairy Who Likes Acorns” reflect how each story is as unique as the child who tells it. Some children use the garden to act out their stories, like Henry, who incorporates movement and materials, or Irene and Emmett's re-enactment of "The fairy house with many bridges”.

The Fairy Garden evolves with the seasons, ensuring that the stories continue to grow throughout the year. It’s not just a fun and creative space; it’s a meaningful environment where children engage in co-construction, research, and shared learning.

"The Fairy Garden is a place where children’s creativity truly shines. It’s incredible to see how each child brings their own ideas and imagination to life through storytelling and play. This space not only nurtures their curiosity but also helps them develop important skills like collaboration and self-expression."

Ms. Samira Bello, ECF Teacher

The project shows how ISP supports learning through exploration, imagination, and play. It’s a testament to the children’s abilities to create and collaborate, inspiring their peers and adults alike.

By supporting initiatives like the Fairy Garden, you help create opportunities for our youngest learners to discover, grow, and express themselves. Together, we can foster a love of learning and creativity in every child.
