Fostering Musical Growth and Exploration: New Instruments - New Opportunities

For the past few years, the Elementary School After-school Activities (ES ASA) club has made the best of limited resources, relying on borrowed instruments to supplement those available in the Elementary School. Thanks to the generous support of the ISP community through the ISP Fund, we’ve now been able to enhance our music programme with new instruments for our students

We are excited to announce the addition of 20 brand-new instruments - flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones - for Grade 5. These instruments will offer more opportunities for hands-on musical exploration in class, plus, there will be an ASA where the students will have the chance to learn each week.

Laying the Groundwork for Future Musicians

To make the most of these new instruments, we’ve created a well-rounded music programme that includes expert instruction from specialist teachers who are part of the ISP ‘Visiting Artist’ Programme. Our students will learn from skilled music teachers who can guide them in both playing techniques and understanding music.

At this stage, students are starting to explore music more deeply. They have the chance to try out different instruments and find one that suits them best. This helps them develop their musical skills and discover their interests in music. With these experiences, we hope to not only teach students how to play music but also to inspire them to continue exploring music throughout their lives.

"Grade 5 is the perfect time to introduce students to a range of different instruments and help them build a strong foundation for their Grade 6 electives.”

Suzanne Higgins, ES Music Teacher

A Musical Celebration

To celebrate this exciting development, we will host an end-of-year ES Band concert in June 2025, where our students will showcase their musical talents and the new opportunities made possible thanks to the ISP Fund.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to Charles Bozon, the representative of our supplier Conn-Selmer, for his support in providing a generous discount on these high-quality instruments.
