Grade 7 Community Mural, "Inspire, Engage, Empower!"

The recent Grade 7 collaborative mural, “Inspire, Engage, Empower,” is the outcome of students' exploration of the world of painting and inquiry into the essence of being a painter.

 

Throughout their learning journey, 7th graders experimented with different painting tools, considering the connection between tool choice, subject matter, and the final outcome.  They also collaborated with Julien Mikton, aka Kilo Blimp, - an accomplished painter and ISP alum from the Class of 2013 - to deepen their understanding of colour theory and the impact of colour choice and combinations on the mood and impact of a painting.

 

In the final phase of this painting unit, students investigated contemporary approaches to painting, focusing on mural art and artists. Each 7th grader created a mural design reflecting the spirit, culture, and essence of ISP's Middle School.

This mural incorporates all the knowledge and skills gained from these learning experiences. The design features not only the key elements of ISP's mission but also the concepts of growth, change, movement, energy, and colour — significant aspects of the Middle School years.
