Cookies for a Cause: Grade 6 Mathematical Changemakers

By: (CK) Chyrelanne Kuipers, Middle School Grade 6 Math & Science

The “Cookies for a Cause” fundraiser was an inspiring initiative that showcased the dedication, compassion, and real-world application of mathematical skills of our Grade 6 students.

Through this month-long hands-on project, students applied several math skills: fractions in order to scale their recipe for 12 cookies, multiplication, division and decimals when calculating the cost for each item in the cookie recipe, and knowledge of surface area and volume when designing their cookie boxes.  Students also learned valuable life lessons about teamwork, organization, and the importance of giving back.

The primary goal of the fundraiser was to collect enough donations to send four children from local orphanages to a memorable summer camp experience. Thanks to the incredible efforts and generosity of our students, parents, and the entire school community, we are delighted to report that we raised a total of 22,930 CZK, reaching our goal!

As a school community, we take immense pride in nurturing our students’ academic and social development, and the “Cookies for a Cause” fundraiser exemplifies the schools core values that we strive to instill in all our learners of being Curious, Competent, Compassion, Changemakers.

Through their dedication and commitment, our Grade 6 students have shown that they have the power to make a positive difference in the world.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the parents and guardians who supported our students by purchasing cookies. Your unwavering support played a vital role in the success of this project, and we are immensely grateful for your contributions.
