At ISP, we understand that every student may need support at some stage of their learning journey.

Our Learning Support Team is committed to advocating for and assisting students, teachers, and parents to ensure inclusivity, challenge, and success for all. We are dedicated to providing equitable learning opportunities and believe that every student can achieve excellence.

Our Learning Support Team recognises that each student has a unique learning profile. We employ a flexible range of developmentally appropriate strategies to meet diverse learning needs. Our approach supports both formally identified and informally recognised students, working collaboratively to devise tailored solutions for each individual. We monitor student progress and performance closely, offering support in both classroom and small group settings to ensure academic success and growth.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

The EAL programme is designed to support multilingual students as they add English to their language repertoire.

Within this programme, students acquire English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while they gain access to the high-level academic programme at ISP.

The EAL Programme believes inclusive, equitable, and accessible learning environments expand multilingual students’ linguistic repertoire to include social and academic English language skills and inspires, engages, and empowers students to be active members of the ISP community.

The EAL programme adheres to the following foundational practices:

Use multilingualism as a resource that is leveraged in order for students to gain access to high-level academic standards and language learning.
Promote collective responsibility amongst educators for multilingual learners’ development through a culture of mutual respect.
Use inclusive and equitable support structures focused on collaborative practices to provide students with access to high-level learning opportunities.

The EAL support we are able to provide depends on the number of students already enrolled in EAL at the relevant grade level.

Learning Support

We believe that all students should have equal access to learning opportunities. To meet the diverse learning needs of our students, ISP provides a Learning Support programme as part of its instructional continuum of Support Services.

The exact number of students we can support is dependent on the resources the School has available at any given time.

Learning Support Services During the Admissions Process

Parents or guardians of any applicant who requires additional support must submit complete supporting documentation with the application. Such documentation might include an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) that outlines the level of support required; Assessment Reports, which show the student’s current level of performance; and any diagnosis or recommendations for intervention and accommodation (such as occupational therapy and/or psycho-educational testing).

As part of this process, we may interview the applicant, and the Admissions Committee may request that a psycho-educational evaluation be conducted before we make a decision.

Please note: When reviewing the application of a student with specific needs, the Admissions Committee takes into consideration the current number of students receiving learning support in that grade. We accept students on a case-by-case basis where the school feels it can meet the needs of the student.

During the application process, it is not in the student’s best interest to withhold information that would allow the school to determine whether it can support the student’s learning and wellbeing. If, after admission, it is discovered that such information existed but was not provided, we reserve the right to withdraw our offer of admission or not to offer re-enrolment.

Counselling

The counselling programme aims to support the social-emotional development of all learners.

Overseen by the sectional Counsellor along with the student’s teachers and parents, it can involve Student Support Teams (SST), Student Success meetings, observations, testing, parent/team conferences, classroom interventions, resource room time, and/or referral to outside consultants.
