Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our donors, we were honoured to welcome Petr Sís, world-renowned author, illustrator, graphic artist, and storyteller to ISP as the first speaker in our Distinguished Speaker Series in honour of Dr. Arnie and Marianne Bieber.
Bringing accomplished professionals, like Petr Sís, to ISP gives our students and families access to expertise and ideas that will help shape their experience, and help them go out and change the world.
During his two-day visit to campus on 8 and 9 September, 2022, Petr exemplified our ISP Mission to Inspire, Engage and Empower all learners.
Petr’s humble, authentic, and warm demeanour won over the hearts of our whole community, young and old. Petr engaged our community with stories of his writing and his life that included sessions for every age student from 3 to 18 years old and our community at large. His sessions at ISP included:
- Opening session for parents, teachers and alumni attended by 70 people.
- Student sessions in classrooms and assemblies. Petr’s sessions inspired our students to see writing and illustrating as a powerful form of personal expression and a vehicle for changing the world.
- Donor reception and movie screening attended by 250 people.
Thank you to the extraordinary generosity of our donors who made it possible to bring Petr Sís to ISP.
Ricky Arnold, NASA Astronaut
NASA Astronaut Ricky Arnold and his wife Eloise came to ISP in 2019. Mr. Arnold served on the International Space Station, circling our planet every day for almost 8 months, along with his fellow astronauts from around the world. His week-long visit to ISP was an inspirational experience for our community, allowing them to be with and learn from someone who has a truly unique perspective about our shared planet and our interconnectedness. Mr. Arnold met with students from Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle and Upper School, in addition to an ISP community evening event.
Jane Goodall, renowned British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist
In 2016 ISP had the tremendous honour of hosting the internationally renowned British primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist, and UN Messenger of Peace, Dr. Jane Goodall MBE. The visit was keenly anticipated, with the Elementary School preparing a special musical welcoming after learning about her life and work. Middle School students produced expertly designed posters, postcards and ‘peace poles’ for the visit, while Upper School Students also prepared various fundraising activities. Dr. Goodall urged students to get involved with important causes and specifically with her signature programme Roots and Shoots.
