US Guitar Class

Upper School music classes might not get together during social isolation, but that doesn’t mean that the music stops! Classes are structured like this:

  1. ZOOM check in and go over lesson activities
  2. Watch a Great Performance of an acoustic guitar song and comment in Canvas Discussion Forum
  3. 15 minute Skills & Drills Guitar Practice. I have videos on mrethridgemusic.com that support.
  4. 5-10 minute mental and physical break
  5. 20-30 minute Individual song practice. Each student has one or two self-selected songs that they are working on.

Anytime throughout the class and office hours, students can ZOOM me for one-to-one instruction.

The students mute their mics and follow me. I watch their fingers move in time.  It’s not perfect, but it still creates a sense of ‘playing together.’

Assessment: Every two weeks, students submit a performance video assessment.

Rock Band Class

  1. ZOOM check in and go over lesson activities.
  2. ZOOM Breakout Rooms in bands for social time and general strategizing. (each band determines how much time this needs)
  3. Watch a Great Performance from the history of Rock and Roll and answer questions in Canvas Discussion Forum
  4. 20 minute Rehearsal #2 of each band’s two self-selected songs. Students play along with YouTube and teacher-created practice audio tracks.
  5. 5-10 minute mental and physical break
  6. 20 minute Rehearsal #2 of each band’s two self-selected songs

Anytime throughout the class and office hours, students can ZOOM me for one-to-one instruction.

Assessment: Every two weeks, students submit a video of themselves playing their band’s song. I will then put the different student videos into one video that shows the whole band playing.
