US Counselor

To provide a comprehensive counseling program for students in grades 9 through 12  and specifically to provide services that meet the needs of assigned students. Key requirements:

  • Proven experience counseling students with US and European university selection and applications.

  • Experience with social, emotional and career counseling.

  • Experience with scheduling individual students and with working with students on course selections.

US EAL / Academic Writing Teacher - Part-time (40% workload)

General description:

Teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) to Upper School (US) students, which involves planning & implementing effective teaching strategies, liaising with parents, teachers and other relevant professionals.

Key responsibilities & duties:

  • Teach EAL/Academic Writing using a developmental approach to listening, speaking, reading and writing;

  • Establish a comprehensive, differentiated, authentic and balanced array of activities, which meet students’ varying levels of proficiency and needs. Develop and plan classes in alignment with ISP’s mission <link>, standards and benchmarks;

  • Effectively assess students’ skill acquisition and learning development according to the schools standards-based criteria;

  • Establish a positive student-centred learning environment;

  • Collaborate with other Faculty colleagues and EAL team to discuss class goals, units, materials, activities, assessments, and provide direct assistance in modifying (and supporting) learning in the classroom, adjusting assessments, planning (and where appropriate co-teaching) lessons as needed in order to meet EAL students’ needs;

  • Provide students, teachers, administrators, and parents with detailed evaluation of the English proficiency level, needs, areas for improvement, strengths, and placement rationale

  • Participate in the overall design, implementation, assessment and documentation of the Upper School EAL Program

ES Literacy Specialist / 50% workload

  • Continue to develop and implement the literacy support program;

  • Assess the effectiveness of literacy interventions and make revisions based on students' progress and needs;

  • Identify and work with struggling readers in Grades K-5, including:

o   Ongoing assessment and progress-monitoring;

o   Flexibly grouping/regrouping students according to progress & needs;

o   Planning and delivering lessons based on student needs with individuals and small groups of students.

Key responsibilities & duties:

  • Collaborate with individual teachers and teams (PK-5 and EAL);

  • Support teachers in the initiation & follow up of referrals for students who are not making adequate progress given literacy support;

  • Recommend teacher resources in ES literacy and provide support with common literacy assessments;

  • Effectively communicate with families of literacy support students including written reports at least 3 times a year;

  • Collaborate in providing regular parent education opportunities.

To assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom according to the developmental needs of students and each teacher’s preference for working with the aide. Instructional resource setting and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Key requirements:

  • Fluent in English (mother tongue proficiency preferred)

  • Knowledge of basic subjects taught in schools, including math, language and reading

  • Knowledge of safe practices in classroom and playground activities and willingness to learn

  • Understanding, patience and receptive attitude toward children

  • Collaborative skills, open and honest communication, ability to support the assigned teacher’s style of classroom management

  • Basic IT skills (e.g.: Google Apps, MS Office, iPhoto, iWeb)

  • Set-up work areas, displays and exhibits. Conduct general clean-up of work site
