US PE Teacher

General description:

This position involves teaching 9th & 10th grade Physical Education (PE) and Health courses.

Key requirements:

  • Proven experience teaching high school PE as well as health classes..

  • Commitment to, and enthusiasm for, working with the 15-18 yrs age group.

  • International and/or multi-cultural experience.

  • A strong ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Ability to display a personal vision in alignment with the ISP mission <link>.

  • Deliver information in varied formats that will enable the students to make wise and healthy decisions about their fitness, health and well-being.

  • Provide a focus on students’ individual fitness levels, and providing the students the knowledge and skills to improve their overall fitness level.

  • Assess students on their participation, performance, learning and development of personal fitness and social and life skill competencies

  • Participate in the school community through student activities.

Experience and education required:

  • BA (MA preferred) in Physical Education

  • A minimum of three years experience teaching PE in Upper School.

US EAL / Academic Writing Teacher - Part-time Local Hire (40% workload)

General description:

Teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) to Upper School (US) students, which involves planning & implementing effective teaching strategies, liaising with parents, teachers and other relevant professionals.

Key responsibilities & duties:

  • Teach EAL/Academic Writing using a developmental approach to listening, speaking, reading and writing;

  • Establish a comprehensive, differentiated, authentic and balanced array of activities, which meet students’ varying levels of proficiency and needs. Develop and plan classes in alignment with ISP’s mission <link>, standards and benchmarks;

  • Effectively assess students’ skill acquisition and learning development according to the schools standards-based criteria;

  • Establish a positive student-centred learning environment;

  • Collaborate with other Faculty colleagues and EAL team to discuss class goals, units, materials, activities, assessments, and provide direct assistance in modifying (and supporting) learning in the classroom, adjusting assessments, planning (and where appropriate co-teaching) lessons as needed in order to meet EAL students’ needs;

  • Provide students, teachers, administrators, and parents with detailed evaluation of the English proficiency level, needs, areas for improvement, strengths, and placement rationale

  • Participate in the overall design, implementation, assessment and documentation of the Upper School EAL Program

  • Integrate IT in classroom instruction as a tool to support student learning;

  • Participate in the school community through student activities

Competencies, skills & other requirements:

ES Teaching Aide - local hire

General description:

To assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students in a classroom according to the developmental needs of students and each teacher’s preference for working with the aide. Instructional resource setting and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Key requirements:

  • Fluent in English (mother tongue proficiency preferred)

  • Knowledge of basic subjects taught in schools, including math, language and reading

  • Knowledge of safe practices in classroom and playground activities and willingness to learn

  • Understanding, patience and receptive attitude toward children

  • Collaborative skills, open and honest communication, ability to support the assigned teacher’s style of classroom management

  • Basic IT skills (e.g.: Google Apps, MS Office, iPhoto, iWeb)

  • Knowledge of child development and guidance, general needs and behavior of children, methods and techniques of assisting in instruction

  • Time management and ability to prioritize

  • Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment

  • Commitment to, and enthusiasm for, working with the 6-7 years age children

  • International and/or multi-cultural experience (preferred)

  • Self-driven & proactive attitude

Key responsibilities & duties:

  • Prepare materials for classroom and instructional use

  • Perform a variety of clerical duties, such as marking student work, recording grades, taking roll and maintaining records and files

  • Provide support to classroom teacher by operating various educational tools / devices as needed, distribute and collect papers and supplies, confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet students’ needs

  • Set-up work areas, displays and exhibits. Conduct general clean-up of work site

  • Reinforce and support instruction to individuals or small groups of students as directed by the teacher

  • Report progress regarding student performance and behavior to teacher

  • Assist students’ learning and social-emotional development by providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude, support children in conflict resolution and general guidance

  • Ensure the health and safety for students by following all health and safety rules

  • Perform lunch and recess duties

  • Assume responsibilities for the classroom in case of teacher’s absence

  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development as required by the supervisor

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required by the teacher

Experience and education required:

  • Experience working with children required (e.g. teacher, camp counselor, nanny)

  • University degree and / or teaching qualification preferred

  • Certification of English language proficiency preferred

  • Any relevant teaching qualifications are an advantage
