Information Technology (IT)

The International School of Prague is well known in academic circles for its approach to the integration of IT into the classroom setting.

ISP believes that IT plays an essential role in inspiring learners to lead healthy, fulfilling and purposeful lives, and our "Digital Citizenship Program" prepares students to adapt and contribute responsibly to our changing world.

IT is used at ISP when it enhances our ability to develop and apply technology skills in integrated ways in line with the National Education Technology Standards (NETS) created by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

The "Petr Mares 1 to 1 Laptop Program" in Middle School (MS) and Upper School (US) along with the Elementary School (ES) Laptop Cart Program, iPads and iTouches, provide students and teachers with the means to develop critical skills while further integrating information technology into the curriculum. The program provides enhanced learning opportunities in our classrooms and promotes the development of responsible digital citizenship.

For more information on IT  at ISP, please click on the pull-down menus below, or visit the detailed sites for each of the schools in Elementary, Middle, or Upper

Digital Citizenship at ISP - Program Details

The goal of the Digital Citizenship Program at ISP is to teach all students to be responsible and informed “Digital Citizens.”

For details about the Digital Citizenship Program in each school, please click Elementary, Middle, or Upper. All students are required to read and sign a Digital Citizenship Agreement.

In addition to the work that the School does with students, we encourage ISP parents to learn about and discuss the positive and negative aspects of digital life with their children. Together, we help children become aware of their responsibilities as digital citizens.

To that end, we provide ongoing education to Students, Parents, and Faculty through a variety of lessons, activities, community workshops and conversations.

We also have sifted through the many online resources available to help individuals deal with the impace of technology in our lives. You can find our recommendations for online resources by clicking Students, Parents, or Faculty.

iLife iWork Certification

iLife iWork Certification

The ISP IT Department is an Authorized Apple Training Center.

As such, we offer the iLife and iWork Apple Professional Certification program to our faculty and staff. All Faculty members may participate in a 13-week iLife or 9-week iWork Certification program facilitated by our own Digital Learning Faciliator. The program and assignments are geared towards integrating their new skill sets into their units and curriculum.

A final test is given to all participants, in which they must demonstrate to their peers a project incorporating the key components of iLife (iMovie, Garage band and iPhoto) or iWork (Numbers, Keynote and Pages) in their class.

To see some examples of the work created by Faculty members who have taken these programs, please click here.

iPad use in the Elementary School

iPad use in the ISP Elementary School

ISP first piloted the use of iPads in 2011 with a small group of Pre-kindergarten students and teachers.

Now, every ISP Pre-kindergarten through Grade 2 class has 1 Teacher iPad and shared ( 2 x 20) iPad carts to support student learning. We have also provided iPads to all Specialist teachers (Learning, Reading, Modern Languages, and English as an Additional Language) in Pre-kindergarten through Grade 2.

Based on this initial success, the IT department is working with the Elementary School Faculty and Administration to develop a long-term strategy for the increase of iPad use throughout the Elementary School. We have also have iPad used in our Upper School, specifically focused on Science and Math.

We continue to be excited about the opportunities that iPad use brings to supporting student learning.

Please visit this page for a short video showing how ISP Czech language teacher Daniela Krejbichova uses Ipads in her classes to support learning.

Petr Mares

We have named the ISP laptop program the "Petr Mares 1 to 1 Laptop program" to honor our late ISP Network Manager (1998-2008) who was tragically killed in a car crash.

Petr was instrumental in developing the infrastructure and hardware for us to be able to launch such a program. We honor his name by continuing (as he would have) to improve the system for the benefit of ISP students.
